4th Annual Clay Fest 2018

Celebrate clay and community with a fun day of muddy festivities near our soon-to-be new home in South Kensington! Join us for hands-on activities for all ages, wheel throwing, a group sculpture extravaganza, artist demonstrations, an ice cream social, t-shirt making & more! LOCATION: 1425 N. American St, Phila 19122 across from the Crane Arts Building. Sponsored by PNC Arts Alive.

Schedule of Events

11 AM - 3PM: Group Sculpting
Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Help turn 1,000 pounds of clay into a playful, collaborative work of art inspired by the South Kensington neighborhood and your hopes for the future of our city.

11 AM - 3PM: Artist Demos
See our Resident, Local, and Teaching Artists in action as they do demonstrations of their making process throughout the day.

11 AM - 3PM: Plarn Bombing
Learn to make and crochet yarn made from recycled plastic bags (“plarn”) with guest artist Rhonda Cooper of Marbufs. Participants receive a roll of plarn and a crochet hook while supplies last.

11 AM - 3PM: Wheel Battles
At the top of each hour, watch our artists battle it out in head-tohead competitions on the potter’s wheel.

11 AM - 3PM: Wheel Throwing 101
Try your hand at throwing on the potter’s wheel under the expert guidance of our teaching artists. Decorate your creation and The Clay Studio will have it ready for you to pick up in a few weeks.

11 AM - 3PM: Silk Screening
Work with Hope Rovelto, artist and owner of Little Chair Printing.

11 AM - 1PM: Print your own t-shirt

1:30 PM – 3PM:  Learn to print on clay

11AM – 1PM: Clay Animation
Create and animate clay characters using the art of stop motion. One person or a group can create a story, supply voices for characters, and share your creation with the world.

11AM – 2PM: Photo Booth
On-the-spot photos and printing with artists from the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, with a ceramic twist!
