Gone & For Ever was an alternative multidisciplinary memorial to Philadelphians and the HIV/AIDS crisis, conceived by Alex Stadler and created in partnership with artists, activists, community leaders, and individuals who have shared their stories. Performed in June 2022, The Clay Studio will present objects used in the procession including a monumental urns by Stadler.
We are thrilled to present Small Favors 2023, the 17th anniversary of this beloved exhibition. It will be on view in our new building for the first time just as we are celebrating our first anniversary at 1425 N American Street in April. Among almost 400 small artworks displayed in 4-inch cubes you will find big ideas, individuality, and material awareness. Artists represented in Small Favors range from the most established ceramic artists in the field, to young artists new to the field.
This exhibition is in honor of my time past as a resident artist from 2006-2009 at The Clay Studio which is in the region where I grew up and attended undergraduate school. I hope to foster a safe space for conversation to take place, civil discourse, mindfulness, wellbeing, fun, community, celebration, placemaking, collaboration, inclusive excellence, authenticity, giving, creating, placemaking, engaged scholarship, service learning and community engagement, scholarship of teaching and learning, project-based learning.
