Apr 1st - Apr 30th, 2026
For the Semiquincentennial, The Clay Studio is leading Radical Americana, a series of exhibitions organized by a consortium of Philadelphia’s arts and cultural institutions. Each celebrates how artists today are continuing the city’s robust legacy as a center for art, skill, and civic engagement. The 45 artists researched and were inspired by the art and history of Philadelphia in 1776, and the subsequent commemorations in 1876, 1926, and 1976. The artists' new work will add their voices to current dialogue about our nation’s present and future, inspire civil dialogue, celebrate Philadelphia's diversity, and continue the rich tradition of creativity in our city.
Participating Artists include: Roberto Lugo, Sophie Glenn, Jody Graff, Adam Chau, Michael Biello, Rosalind Sutkowski, Natessa Amin, Janna Gregonis, Naya Lee Chang, Kristen Neville Taylor, Samara Weaver, Jacintha Kruc, Jonathan Wahl, Angelique Scott, Monna Morton, Caitlin McCormack, Jessica Eldredge, Duwenavue Santé Johnson, BA hArrington, Viola Bordon, Bell-Pilar Flemming, Bri Murphy, Dennis Ritter, Miranda Lopez, Hagudeza Rullán-Fantauzzi, Scarlett DeLorme,, Justin Jain, Aimee Koran, John Wnd, Kate Strachan, Charlotte Lindley Martin, Terri Saulin, and Lyla Kaplan.
Join us for the official launch of Radical Americana at The Clay Studio! Starting at 3:30 pm we will host an artist talk with Roberto Lugo discussing his work and the larger Radical Americana project, sponsored generously by Haystack. The fun continues at 5pm for the opening reception of Lugo's "American Crib: What's Happening" and the Radical Americana Welcome Hub - an exhibition featuring works from the artists showing work at partner locations!
