María Gwynn-Samblás is an artist whose work explores themes of memory, longing, loss and renewal. Their current ceramic practice is informed by several years of working mainly with film and digital collage, layering photos taken sometimes years and thousands of miles apart, to explore the relationship between different moments in time and reveal synchronicities. Clay's unique ability to record touch has offered a wellspring of inspiration to explore these themes in a new way. Their practice is deeply informed by the power of geometry and repetition in Islamic and Catholic traditions to stir faith and awe, as well as the spiritual and practical significance of vessels throughout human history.
