Made at The Clay Studio: Guest Artists in Residence 2010-14

Jun 6th - Jul 13th, 2014

The Clay Studio continues our 40th Anniversary celebration by exhibiting works Made at The Clay Studio by the many talented artists from around the world who have participated in our Guest Artist-in-Residence program during the past four years. The Guest Artist program is a prestigious, highly visible residency that gives the participating artists access to all of the equipment and technical brainpower of The Clay Studio, plus all of the cultural resources that Philadelphia has to offer.

The artists occupy a 160 square foot studio that is on the same floor as our School. Rather than being hidden away, the Guest Artist studio is in a public place, allowing for maximum contact between the artists and the many Resident Artists, students and teachers that use the space.

Made at The Clay Studio shows the wide range of approaches to clay that contemporary artists can take. From the figurative sculpture of Italian artist Paolo Porelli and American artist Christina West to functional works by Belgian artist Ann Van Hoey and Singapore-based Hong-Ling Wee or illustrative tiles of Spanish artist Xavier Monsalvatje, clay is the common tie. Over the past two decades The Clay Studio has hosted artists from over 45 countries.

In the coming year, we will be hosting artists from Sweden, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Egypt and the United States. The Guest Artist-in-Residence program is a form of active diplomacy, which brings a diverse range of artists into our community, but also sends artists home with a better understanding of The Clay Studio and its importance to Philadelphia.
