Benjamin Schulman: Subtraction by Addition

Aug 27th - Sep 19th, 2004

Schulman received his BFA from Pennsylvania State University in 1996 and his MFA from Tyler School of Art in 1999.  He came to The Clay Studio as a Shapiro Fellow upon return from a year as a Visiting Professor in Ceramics at Kyung Hee University, Republic of Korea in Seoul.  He was juried into the program based on a body of sculptural work exploring the physical and psychological response to architectural forms referencing the dwelling/home, placing them in environments where they would never exist.  In doing so, he both objectified and re-contextualized these iconographic forms, allowing us to think about ideas of place and home in new ways.
