Steve Welch earned his BFA from Mankato State University, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1989 and his MFA from Louisiana State University in 1992. He is a recipient of many prestigious awards including an NEA visual arts fellowship and an Emerging Professional Artist's Residency from the Appalachian Center for Crafts.
Steve Welch was a recipient of The Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Grant in 1995, at The Clay Studio.
