Since 1991, Mercê Tiana has been a member of the Catalonian Ceramics Association. She has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) since 2013. Her works are included in the collections of art museums in Latvia, Spain, and Turkey. From 1979 to 1987 she taught at the Art and Crafts School in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. Since 1991 she teaches at Pau Gargallo Art and Design School in Badalona. She is promoting ceramics and sculpture by organizing workshops and exhibitions of local and foreign artists in Catalonia. She also works at her studio in Premià de Dalt (Barcelona).

“I would like to work this few weeks coming from my Barcelona environmental influences to a new specific location: Philadelphia, not “comparing” but feeling this “movement” from one Atlantic side to the other (Mediterranean), from one mainland to other, working in different atmosphere and conditions, trying to establish a dialog between two cultures, arriving may be to a kind of hybrid works, figures and animals, creating and presenting some new artworks.”

Bio

Mercê Tiana studied art history and ceramics. Since 1990 she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Andorra, France, Latvia, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the USA. She has created ceramics sculptures for interior and exterior of public institutions in Spain and abroad. Mercê has published a number of articles and reviews on ceramic art internationally.

Mercê Tiana studied art history at Laguna University in Tenerife, Spain. She then studied ceramics at the Ceramics Art School, Madrid and graduated from the University of Barcelona with a focus on sculpture. Since 1990 she has participated in numerous exhibitions in Andorra, France, Latvia, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the USA. The artist has arranged several solo exhibitions. She has created ceramics sculptures for interior and exterior of public institutions in Spain and abroad.
