Laurie Carretta

Associate Artist - Current

Laurie Carretta Scupp began studying ceramics in 2015 and immediately realized a profound passion to create with clay. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and stores, as well as two solo public installations in New York City. She makes ceramic sculpture as well as functional work, using both the potter’s wheel and hand building techniques.

Fairy tales, folklore, and myths have significantly influenced Laurie's life and art. The framework they provide for creatively conveying emotions is what she strives to achieve with her work. In addition to patterns or imagery, she often adds a whimsical element to further the narrative of the piece. Each of her works stands as a simple, purposeful object that expresses part of a story, to be interpreted by the viewer’s imagination.
