Artist's Statement
I believe the concept of beauty to be a relevant measure of excellence and mastery. It implies a fluidity and correctness of execution and reveals a keen sense of intuition of its maker. In short, it is the refinement of consciousness. To this end, I strive to create works that express a sense of beauty through natural rhythms, logic, and completeness.

The ceramic medium provides me with the opportunity to work with the dynamic union of form and surface. My decoration takes root in a base of geometry, which I soften with curves and color, for an overall sense of balance.

Much of my decoration has been influenced by the mosaics and pottery of the Near and Middle East as well as the Majolica’s of Spain and Italy. The common thread of these influences is in their commitment to surface, and to the high level of mastery achieved through their creative efforts.

My forms are rooted in the notion of function and the details of craftsmanship that make pieces truly enjoyable to use. These include the physical aspects of weight & balance; the visual qualities of line, and the appropriateness of shape and volume.

My search for personal expression compels me to create. I challenge myself to remain conscious; to allow my experience and intuition to guide my creative decisions; and, to express the concept of beauty as I understand it.
