Artist's Statement
My current work explores the conjunction of organic, handbuilt forms with the dry aesthetic of wheel-thrown and the industrial symmetry it creates. This creates hybrid vessel forms that, due to their scale, and brightly painted surfaces, caricature the pottery forms they derive from. The industrial aesthetic still prevails in most of my work, due to my reliance on mostly wheel thrown forms I construct with. My use of sign-painters paint to finish the surfaces creates an incongruity of cartoonish play with the gravity and massiveness of the pedestals and oversized pitchers and teapots they display.
