The Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship

The Clay Studio is pleased to offer the Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship, a one-year artist residency. The Fellowship provides:
- a 180 square foot studio space
- a monthly stipend of $500.00
- a materials and firing allowance
- access to gas and electric kilns
- access to glaze materials
- the opportunity to teach for pay in the Studio's school
- the opportunity to exhibit work in the Studio's gallery and shop.
The residency runs from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009.
Focus
The focus of the work of the Fellowship recipient will alternate annually between functional work/vessel oriented work (even years) and sculpture/installation oriented work (odd years). The focus of this year's Fellowship will be functional work/vessel oriented work.Interaction with Clay Studio Community
The incoming fellow will become part of a community of 11 other Resident Artists. He/she is expected to participate in the program fully, sharing the same duties as those of other Resident Artists including the maintenance of the studio spaces and a small amount of volunteered time to The Clay Studio.Application Process
Applicants will be judged by an independent three-member jury and will be notified by the third week of April. The selected artist must accept or decline by May 9, 2008. All applicants are strongly encouraged to visit The Clay Studio prior to submitting an application.No slides will be accepted for review, ONLY DIGITAL IMAGES.
A complete application must include the following:- a completed application form [PDF, 94K] in hard copy
- a resume in hard copy
- artist statement in hard copy
- a personal statement (tell us everything you would like us to know about you including your reasons for applying for the Fellowship) in hard copy
- A disc with 10 digital image .jpeg files at 72 dpi, with the image's longest dimension not exceeding 700 pixels. Each image file should be labeled as follows: imagenumberyourfirstinitialandlastname.jpeg, Example: 1jdoe.jpeg, 2jdoe.jpeg, ect
- A corresponding image list that includes the following: image number, title, medium, size, and date, in hard copy
NO DISCS WILL BE RETURNED AND NOTIFICATION WILL BE MADE VIA EMAIL.
