A major inspiration for my work and its decoration is the great outdoors. I look for the intricacies and strength of nature’s details found in a textured bloom or a coral reef. I am also intrigued by the “urban jungle” that I find myself in while living in a large city. This play with texture, form and detail is the most prominent aspect of my work.

The technical aspects or technique I use for my work is based on handworking the clay without the use of machines. I find this intimate contact with the clay helps me capture the gesture and movement that I value in a clay object. I like to play with the forms and decorations such as handles that causes the viewer to wonder if the object is “functional”. The making of vessels allows me the contest of a set of rules under which I stress the use of an object while stretching the usage to the logical extremes. I enjoy experimenting with the use of color such as a bleeding glaze with faded and indistinct lines, the use of texture in the porcelain paper clay, forms exaggerated to obscure the implied function, and all the characterizations that make my work complete.
