Associate Artist:
Carole Sivin

Carole Sivin was trained as a painter and printmaker. She has worked in many other materials and forms.

Her previous ceramic work featured hand-built stoneware pieces. Immediate, spontaneous, and rough, they addressed nature's rhythms, suggesting tide pools, primeval forests, and strange rocks.

Most recently, Sivin has been working exclusively in terra cotta with slips and low-fired glazes. The technique of trailing slip has captivated her. A series called "Turmoil in the Garden" has emerged, as well as a painterly series of cat portraits inspired by the varied moods of her Somali cats.
